Talking 2D Characters

In this basic Blender Grease Pencil course, you create, rig, and animate a simple two-dimensional character from a provided sketch file.

There are different ways to rig and animate in Blender’s Grease Pencil environment. This course will focus on a fairly straightforward method where each part of the character is an individual object. Some objects will be parented to other objects, and some will be parented to an armature. An armature allows you to easily animate parts of the body with joints, like the arms, neck and waist.

We will also be using another type of rigging where objects contain multiple frame-states that can be animated by changing a number in a special modifier called the Time Offset Modifier. We’ll be using this method to rig and animate the eyes, mouth and hands.

You should be able to benefit from this course with or without any prior experience in Blender or Grease Pencil, but it would be helpful to have a basic understanding of both.
