This course aims to take the mystery out of audio and give students the confidence to record good sound. After a long day of shooting, it is not a good feeling to find out that the dialogue was distorted and unusable.

Students will be able to…Identify how sound is an artistic choice and plays different roles in the various films they watch; it has excellent power and can either enhance or be destructive to the story. Students will gain a basic introduction to sound theory and why recording good sound is vital. The lessons will demonstrate sound recording equipment and workflows. Different types of microphones, their characteristics, and when to use the microphone. Video demonstrations of operating a boom and lav microphones and identifying and treating locations for audio problems.
